How to Reduce File Size in Adobe Premiere Pro CC

  1. First import some footage into your project to get ready.
  2. Hit the ctrl+M key, we get the export menu.
  3. The default here is adaptive bitrate. This can create up to 750/MB per minute, which adds up pretty quickly.
    1. Only use this option if you are exporting for something other than streaming, or to another stage of development.
  4. Go to the preset and change the preset to “Match Source – High Bitrate”, or something similar. Still a pretty high file size.
  5. Go to the video tab and scroll down to the bitrate settings.
  6. You want to adjust the target and maximum to help keep the file size down. Dropping down to 5-7 for target can save a lot of quality. YouTube or other streaming platforms are going to do this regardless.
  7. If you are exporting 4k footage, make sure the end product is also 4k. If it isn’t, you can drop the resolution to lower the amount of data.

There you have it, some quick tips to reduce file size in Adobe Premiere Pro. Remember to export for the quality of video you are creating. If it’s for YouTube, you can get away with smaller file sizes.
